Our History

The "Golden Griffin" in the middle of the old town was already a center of social life in the time of the free imperial city of Rothenburg ob der Tauber. Where 650 years ago locals and travelers met, where Heinrich Toppler received his guests, today you can still feel the unique charisma of this historical place.

We, the fifth generation and the sixth generation of innkeepers, are committed to preserve this heritage and lead the house in our own charming and perhaps somewhat unusual way. For 150 years we have been respecting the traditions of the house and provide our guests with an impression of the authentic Rothenburg.

The love of the historical details and the commitment to preserving the original elements give the inn its distinctive atmosphere and make it the best starting point to experience the history of the city. In our more than 650-year-old "castle", the mediaeval roots of our own, personal house history can be seen in many corners.

Due to the privileged location below the market square with the world-famous town hall, all sights are within walking distance. But the city walls and thus the beginning of extensive hiking and cycling trails through the "Romantic Franconia" and the "Lovely Tauber Valley" are only a few steps away. And maybe you meet the local hiking group when you return to our beer garden.
